Nanaimo, BC: Over 1500 emerging leaders including students and young professionals around the world will gather virtually with the Global Emerging Leadership Programs (GELP) for keynote talks, professional skill development workshops, networking, and career development discussions during the inaugural 2022 Global Virtual Summit for Career and Skill Development held on June 24th, and June 25th.

supportingIn March 2020, a small team created a plan to help students across the world engage in programs that would assist them in becoming better leaders for the future. This team then went to India for 17 days and built connections and relationships with various education institutions interested in equipping their students to be ready for their next steps after graduation, whether it was continued studies or joining the workforce. Since then, the world has experienced a lot of change as we move towards a post-pandemic era, and along with the world, the Global Emerging Leadership Programs (GELP) has changed too.

“The pandemic has shifted the way we operate, think, work, and learn shares Omar Karim, Founder and President of GELP. We are in an era with unprecedented global conflicts, demographic shifts, economic changes, and technological advances. New skills are needed to be developed to adapt to these changes and as result we are now seeing the emergence of new careers”.

In Early 2021, GELP refocused and is working towards equipping young leaders with the relevant skills required to enter the market of new and forming careers. Through this refocusing, the GELP team will be presenting the first annual Global Summit on June 24th and 25th, 2022 at 6:30 pm PDT/ 7 am IST. The Global Summit is a half-day virtual conference where delegates will be able to engage with leaders around the globe through keynote speakers, professional skill development workshops, as well as networking and career development opportunities. Upon the completion of the Global Virtual Summit, delegates will be able to earn a digital badge for their LinkedIn or e-portfolio and win up to $1500 CAD in tuition awards.

The Summit includes global speakers from diverse backgrounds, including but not limited to;

Elder Wilson Bearhead, Canadian Senator Mobina Jaffer, Nabil Karim, international Sports

Anchor, Host and Reporter for TNT/Turner Sports, Charlene Bearhead, Director of

Reconciliation at Royal Canadian Geographical Society, Sakina Bedi, National Spokesperson for the Jagriti School for Blind Women and Girls in India, Artists/Performers and Academic Leadership from educational institutions in Canada and South Asia.

With support from generous sponsors such as the Edmonton Community Foundation, University Canada West, BC India Business Network, Northeastern University, Simon Fraser University, and Vancouver Island University, the GELP team is able to provide this half-day conference free for delegates, covering a multitude of topics within leadership including “Finding Purpose in an Overstimulated and Hyper-Connected World”, “The Influence of Disruptive Technologies” and “Understanding Your Leadership Identity in a World of Inequalities through an Intersectional Lens”.

“The world has changed so much over the course of the pandemic,” shares Karim, “emerging leaders need new ways not only to build their skills but also have a tangible way to demonstrate the learning that they have done. GELP aims to bridge that gap and prepare those who participate in the programs to be more successful as they enter the new career market.”

The theme for the 2022 Global Summit is “Build your Story, Share your Experience.” As each delegate brings their own unique global perspective, GELP aims to create an environment that encourages the ability to gain knowledge, build worldwide connections and share experiences as global leaders. This year’s Global Summit is already at capacity with over 1500 delegates from across the world attending.

Through this summit, GELP is bringing together people from all different cultures across the world and create a Global Marketplace for new skill development and to support the changing dynamics of the global talent economy.
